Mexico City: New Mission Leaders? Who Cares?
Generated Title: Another Mission President? Who Cares.
Okay, so another mission president gets appointed. Big deal. Like anyone actually cares about the inner workings of the Mormon church beyond, you know, actual Mormons. I'm supposed to feign interest because... reasons?
The Usual Suspects
Julio Cesar Jasso Zavala and Lourdes Gutierrez de Jasso are the new heads of the México México City West Mission, starting October 2025. He was a stake president, she was a Relief Society president. Yawn. It’s always the same resume, isn’t it? A cookie-cutter list of church callings designed to impress…who, exactly? God? I doubt it. More likely, the selection committee.
Seriously, does anyone outside the bubble even know what a "stake employment specialist" is? It sounds like some kind of dystopian HR job in a Margaret Atwood novel.
And let's be real, the church is REALLY laying it on thick with these titles. "Former stake president, stake presidency counselor, bishop, high councilor..." Give me a break. It’s like they’re trying to convince themselves that these people are qualified for…something. What exactly IS the job description for a mission president anyway? Recruit more members? Keep the existing ones in line?
I’m not even going to pretend I know.
A Lifetime of Devotion...To What End?
They were missionaries before, too, apparently. "Former senior missionaries in the México Monterrey West Mission." So, a lifetime dedicated to the church. Good for them? I guess?

But here's the question that always gets me: what's the endgame here? You devote your entire existence to this one organization, climbing the ranks, checking all the boxes. And then what? You get a pat on the back and a thank you note from Salt Lake City? Does it actually, tangibly improve the world? Or does it just perpetuate the cycle?
I mean, I’m all for faith and community, but there's a difference between genuine service and just... administrative work for a corporation masquerading as a religion.
Offcourse, maybe I'm just being cynical. Maybe these two are genuinely good people who want to make a difference. But forgive me if I don't hold my breath waiting for the revolution.
The Wallis Who?
They’re succeeding President R. Tyler Wallis and Sister Elizabeth Wallis. Ring a bell for anyone? Didn’t think so. These folks come and go, interchangeable parts in a vast, well-oiled machine. The church churns them out, spits them out, and moves on to the next set.
It's like being a manager at McDonald's—you put in your time, flip your burgers, and then you're replaced by another fresh-faced kid eager to climb the corporate ladder. Only in this case, the "ladder" leads to…eternal glory? A bigger mansion in the celestial kingdom? I honestly can't keep the theology straight.
Give Me a Break...
So, what's the real story? A couple of lifelong church members get promoted. The world keeps spinning. And I'm left here wondering why I even bothered writing about it in the first place. Maybe I need a new beat. Or maybe the whole damn system needs an overhaul.
